Yesterday was a marathon drawing session and a real labour of love as the subject of my drawing is a character I love dearly.  Her name is Sky and she really is intelligent and fun and everything a collie should be.  She can run like the wind and often chooses to do so, leaving you standing.  She, along with Storm who I drew last year, belong to a dear friend of mine and they all live on the Isle of Arran.  She is also mum to No2 who I drew a few days ago.

This was not an easy task for me as, knowing Sky’s character, I wanted to make sure I captured it.  The drawing did not start well and I nearly binned it an hour into the process but I decide to keep going and I am glad I did.  I think this is the best work that I have done.  That is not to say it is brilliant but, as an artist, I want to see the improvement in my own work every time I do something.  With this I can and I went to bed very happy after I finished this last night.

So here she is:

I e-mailed this to John, her owner, this morning and he is very happy with it so that is the best bit.  It is always terrifying to show your work to someone else, but when the subject is pesonal to them it is even harder.

My house is a disaster area as no housework got done once I started this yesterday but that can wait till tonight. : )  I have a sign in my house that says ‘Dull women have tidy houses’ so I am going to make sure that no-one calls me dull this week!!

  1. Hi there,
I went into your site when I noticed the name of the dog ‘Sky’. I nearly dropped when I seen her she is so like the dog we my family had up to the 21st Jul 09 just 2 weeks ago when she died very suddenly, she also was called Skye. The personality you have captured is just right, with a michievious look and a lot of love and intelligence.

    Thank you

    1. Thanks for your comment, I am sorry to hear about your dog but I am so glad you liked the picture. The other little pup – No 2 is Sky’s puppy and is a real character too.
